I Just Thought There Would Be More is a love letter. To adolescence; to presumed freedom; to the greatest love affairs of all time: the friendships you make and cherish as a teenager.
All of these photographs were taken between 2010 and 2013 in various parts of Midcoast Maine. I spent these years largely homeless and as an addict. Some of these subjects are dead. Some of them are in prison. None of them are posed.
At the time, I felt like the only one who knew all of it would be over soon. I made these photographs as an act of radical preservation. Mira lives forever. Cassidy isn’t a father. Cody doesn’t join the navy.
By the beach, in the backseat of the car, looking out at the harbor, in the bedroom; I just thought there would be more.
